About This Opportunity

The Rural Clinical School has an opportunity for an Operations Supervisor, who will be supervising the Team Leaders for the Regional Clinical Units (Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, and Toowoomba) and the Rural and Remote Medicine Clinical Unit. The position reports to the Senior Manager, Rural Clinical School.

This position can be located at either the Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay or Toowoomba Units.

The Operations Supervisor is the key point of contact across the School of Medicine for student administration and is responsible for identifying and implementing opportunities for collaboration and consistency across the UQRCS in operational matters. The Supervisor Operations will advocate on behalf of the UQRCS at the School level for operational matters.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Supervise and contribute to the effective and efficient management of the UQRCS and School of Medicine teaching program including:
  • Supervising professional staff through the Team Leaders to ensure compliance with Government and University policy and procedures.
  • Provide advice, recommendations and guidance to the Director of the Rural Clinical School and Senior Manager on policies and procedures relevant to the UQRCS' Teaching and Learning activities.
  • Develop and implement guidelines and processes to enhance efficiency, contribute to a positive experience for students across all UQRCS and support teaching activities.
  • Implement initiatives, and actively promote a high standard of performance and a culture of continuous improvement across all operational functions within the UQRCS.
• Support the Senior Manager in completing relevant reporting requirements to the Faculty, Commonwealth Government and other reporting bodies.
• Supervise, support and coordinate the on the ground operation of the UQRCS' facilities and assets including student accommodation.
• Support and implement the Critical Incident Management Plan as required.
• Undertake HSW and risk management training and liaise with the School HSW team to provide leadership, commitment and support for the promotion, effective implementation and ongoing management of WH&S systems within the School and/or Centres, including workers undertaking fieldwork and off-campus work.
• Regular travel is required to the four Rural Clinical School sites (Toowoomba, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Hervey Bay) and this is a KPI for this position.

• This role requires Leadership Hew Level 7 capabilities (direction is provided in terms of objectives which may require the planning of staff, time and material resources.

About The University of Queensland Rural Clinical School

The University of Queensland Rural Clinical School (UQRCS) is one of the three Clinical Schools within The University of Queensland's Medical School. The UQRCS vision is to provide world class medical education and research for better rural health outcomes and our mission is to inspire and prepare a well-trained workforce committed to meeting rural healthcare and community needs. We care deeply for our people and actively support a collegial, positive, respectful, and ethical team culture. The UQRCS has an annual budget of approximately $11 million provided through the Australian Government's Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program and has invested in excess of $20 million in state-of-the-art clinical training and student support facilities. The school has a geographical footprint encompassing the greater part of central and southwestern regional Queensland and has four main clinical training sites based in Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton, and Toowoomba, with an extensive network of smaller clinical training locations in rural host communities.

The UQRCS is the rural and regional base for the delivery of the UQ Doctor of Medicine (MD)Program. We work in close partnership with the broader health system including, Hospital and Health Services, local clinicians, Indigenous health services, the health care profession (including the Colleges), education providers and a wide range of other health service providers, to train the Year 3 and 4 medical students. Each year, more than 500 medical students engage with the rural experience through a range of long term (1-2 years) placements or shorter term (2-16 weeks) learning opportunities. The student experience is characterised by real world, rich and authentic rural learning opportunities with extensive community involvement. A key component of the program is the Mayne Academy of Rural and Remote Medicine placement where all domestic year 3 students spend 6 weeks in smaller rural or remote communities. The breadth of Indigenous health curriculum is being expanded and embedded in the MD Program curriculum. The UQRCS pursues the latest innovations in medical education and training and there is a focus on scenario-based training in purpose-built Simulated Learning Environments together with Technology Enabled Learning. Our learning framework supports a more generalist, integrated approach to deliver well-trained, safe, and work-ready interns to local training hospitals.

The UQRCS and UQ Regional Training Hubs (RTHs) engage with every stage of the rural health learning continuum. The journey starts with learners of rural origin, progresses through undergraduate and pre-vocational training, and culminates with contributions to vocational training and continuing professional development in rural and regional areas. The RTH's are funded through the RHMT program and operate in Central Queensland, Wide Bay and Southern Queensland. This is exemplified by the introduction of the Central Queensland - Wide Bay and the Darling Downs - South West Medical Pathways where the whole 4-year UQ MD program will be delivered, as part of an end-to-end medical education and training pathway. UQ and its regional universities and hospital and health services partners are working together to home grow the next generation of rural and regional medical workforce across our footprint.

An expanding research profile focusses on clinical research, epidemiology/population health and rural health workforce. There is a significant component of Indigenous health research, particularly programs designed to translate and improve health outcomes amongst the Indigenous population. Research productivity is evidenced through a successful track record in attracting competitive funding from agencies such as the NHMRC. At least 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts are published each year.

About You

• At least four years' relevant experience; or extensive relevant experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
• Relevant work experience in an operations role, preferably within a tertiary education environment.
• Demonstrated capability to supervise student/academic administration functions and lead teams.
• Relevant experience in facility management, refurbishment or project works strategies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and an ability to be adaptive and innovative in developing and pursuing solutions.
• Ability to use judgment, act independently and take initiative with minimal direction, yet work effectively as part of a management team.
• Experience working or living in a rural context.

What We Can Offer

This is a Full-time, (1 FTE) Fixed-term position through to 31 December 2023 at Hew 7 Level.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $90,538 - $98,719 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $105,929 - $115,501 per annum.
